Why all the opposition to health care for everyone, who is answering these polls that say Americans are happy with their health care system? I understand that certain issues are hot topics in regards to what is health care-for example abortion, obesity, depression,-should these issues be discussed yes are they a reason to not have health care for all.

  1. People are afraid. They fear death, pain and change, among others (the stuff at the bottom of Maslow's hierarchy). Changing healthcare touches all of these.

People with reasonably good healthcare (although most plans in the US suck compared to Canada, UK, etc.) are afraid they'll lose it. People with sucky plans say, "At least I have a plan." People over 65 say, "Don't change anything if it will mess with Medicare."

The only people I really care to listen to are those who are in a position where they need this health care plan, but object due to philosophical reasons (generally, they're libertarian). They fear the above factors (death, pain, change), and think that more government overall will ruin their standard of life.

I ask, do you people live in the world of comic books and action TV shows? Even if the government, with its three sparring branches can get this stuff passed, it's not going to suddenly drop an A-bomb in your life. It will take years to implement, unlike the Draconian "safety" measures after 9/11, and you'll have time to get used to it - like we all got used to vaccinations, seat belts, IRAs, etc.

Quit being so god-damned selfish: "I don't want the government to make me help other people. It's my money and I'll do whatever I want with it." Wrong, dummy. You make and spend money as part of a community of people, not all of whom you get to vet.

P.S. I say, offer treatments for everything that gets taught in accredited medical schools (this obviously excludes Christian Scientists and related "healing," which is religious mumbo-jumbo).
